New Stage Set for H.C.R. 2000

The Curtain Opens for the New Millennium

With the Care Insurance System beginning in April of this year, steps in preparation for the "Gold Plan 21" will also begin and will provide a basic overall health and social welfare insurance by the year 2005. For example, home care services will take up importance and stronger measures in taking steps to support elderly persons with dementia will also be included.

In addition, different types of equipment for use in the information and communication fields have been achieved. In order to be able to respond to various needs in the areas of care, social welfare, medicine, and so forth in a timely and effective manner, information exchange will be one valuable way in which to be able to provide high quality service. We will expect progressive development of information and communication systems to support the independence of the elderly and physically challenged persons, and user friendly information and communication technology to be researched and developed.

Furthermore, there are important factors that need to be considered by transportation organizations and public institutions such as the aging society and promotion of fewer children, equipment for the home and road environments. We must take positive steps to incorporate into our city planning provisions for the elderly and physically challenged persons.

For the 21st century, the implementation of such plans for the equipment for everyday living standards certainly seems to be reflected in the growth seen in the home care and rehabilitation market. In support of such growth, the home care and rehabilitation equipment survey conducted on the H.C.R. exhibitors by the Health and Welfare Information Association, have concluded that the expectations of the growth of the market has heightened and the scale of this market will double by the fiscal year 2001.
